Becoming an Authentic Leader:

Overcoming Roadblocks and Essential Qualities Authentic Leaders Must Have

🎙️ This blog post is part of our podcast show notes collection with the Unleash Your Potential Podcast on Spotify and Apple.

I’m eager to kick off season 3 with a deep dive into the theme of women in leadership. In this season, we're focusing on what it means to be a leader, the essential qualities of leadership, and the barriers that women leaders often face.

Throughout my career, I've encountered various opportunities for leadership growth and development. From my experience as an occupational therapist in healthcare to running my own business, I've explored the different facets of leadership and the skills it demands. What I've discovered is that being a leader is not solely about years of experience, but rather a culmination of diverse qualities and a willingness to grow and adapt.

In our first episode, I discuss the qualities necessary to be a leader. These include vulnerability, honesty, integrity, grit, resilience, and the ability to adopt a big-picture mindset. Embodying these qualities is crucial for anyone aspiring to lead, as they form the foundation for effective and impactful leadership.

However, I also explore the roadblocks that women leaders commonly encounter. First, the need to be the expert can hinder our progress. As leaders, it's essential to understand that we don't have to excel in every aspect. Embracing collaboration and seeking expertise from others can be incredibly empowering and beneficial for the overall vision and mission.

Secondly, the obsession with being right can present challenges. Acknowledging that perfection is unattainable and that diverse perspectives often lead to innovation is vital for sustainable leadership.

Finally, the inclination towards people-pleasing can undermine our authenticity and well-being. Learning to set personal boundaries, prioritize self-care, and make decisions that align with our vision, regardless of external expectations, is a significant step in surmounting this roadblock.

To develop the necessary leadership skills and overcome these roadblocks, I emphasize the significance of getting out of our heads. Creating space for self-discovery, grounding ourselves in our full beings, and embracing vulnerability are powerful steps towards becoming well-rounded and confident leaders.

This season, I'm dedicated to delving deeper into the intricacies of leadership, featuring guest speakers, and providing valuable insights to help women step into their roles as authentic leaders.
